MIS – (Mathematically
Inclined Students) Ninth - eleventh grade
students will be eligible to participate in a mentoring program
that will allow them access
to professionals in their field of study. They will be able to
get assistance with homework, or special school related projects,
and
ask questions that relate to their prospective major. Selected
participants will be invited to UTD several times during the year
to attend functions
that will provide the opportunity for them to become better acquainted
with their mentors, and the college environment. Our intended goal
is to increase enrollment through this pipeline.
Career
Days – ECS Outreach personnel attends local
high school Career Day functions and coordinates special events with
the UTD Career
Services Department.
Club
12 – Twelth
grade students who have been a part of the MIS (Mathematically Inclined
Students) program will
be able to participate
in programs to assist with SAT preparation, continued tutoring, and
CS/EE related activities with current UTD students.
ECS Connect – Outreach
personnel, instructors and current EE/CS students participate in
local K-12 functions that
focus attention on
engineering and computer science related projects.
Youth Camps – ECS Outreach and personnel from
the Athletic department co-sponsor week long summer events to enhance
swimming skills. This
program is designed for 8-12th grade students.
Discovery – A program designed to increase
mathematical awareness for children (grades 4-6). Children will be
able to participate in
team projects and experiments.
Science and Mathematics Fair – students (grades
8-12) learn the correlation between math and science during a day
long event co-sponsored
by the Science and Engineering/Computer Science departments.
Girl’s World – A career awareness program
for (7-12 grade) girls that encourages continued knowledge of math.
Students will have
the opportunity to meet women who work in math related jobs.
